Post a memory of Dale Breshears

Memory: Nobody, but, NOBODY could dance like my old friend Dale. When I think of the weekly dances that were held at the pavilion in City Park, memories of nothing but good times come flooding back and Dale was the star of the show. Dale was always very good to me, but he was also very nice to my folks and they thought the world of Dale. My first car was a 1928 Model A. My Dad gave Johnny Skaggs 50 bucks for it. Dale and I got the rods knocking in no time at all. We had a monkey hanging from the rear view mirror. Dale took a swat at the money and knocked the windshield to pieces. No Safety Glass here. We would fill that model A with a bunch of kids after school (Central Jr.) and literally run Stop signs while standing on the brake pedal. Mechanical brakes were bad news. Tommy Saint caught us one afternoon and made me follow him down to the rear of the old City Hall (Police Alley). Old Capt. Hayes called my folks, told them what had happened and highly recommended that they get rid of the car, then he sent me home. As I was going down the back steps of the jail, Dale and all of the other kids in my car were heading up the steps - Dale said they were coming in to "Spring me"! I've got a million stories about my old buddy, all good stories about a good friend. Maybe I'll come back at a later date and tell a few of them. Richard Smith
